CAMP UBUNTU WATTS

UBUNTU is a South African philosophy, which translates to, “I am because we are.”

Camp Ubuntu Watts, a project by the Harold Robinson Foundation, creates an environment where children learn to rely on and support each other in order to insure individual, family and community success. Formerly known as Markham Summer Camp, Camp Ubuntu Watts is a free 6-week summer day camp in the heart of Watts, Los Angeles.

I had the privilege of photographing the amazing staff, counselors and kids over a 4-week period. The smiles, openness, curiosity and achievements touched me so deeply, I crave more. Looking forward to another summer of camp. — Melissa Roldan
